This web site presents information and guidance for AED staff to help them keep up-to-date on the status of the swine flu pandemic, learn about swine flu and epidemics in general, and to learn techniques for staying healthy and preparing themselves to deal with the flu in their work and daily activities.

It presents information selected from the best and most authoritative relevant Web sites on the topic, as well as other documents developed through AED’s work as part of a team addressing the challenges of communicable diseases in general.

We encourage all AED staff to stay up to date by visiting the following Web sites:

What You Can Do to Prevent Flu

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  2. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
  3. Stay home when you are sick.
  4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  5. Clean your hands frequently.
  6. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Travel

If traveling outside of the United States, please take the following precautions:

  1. Get a refundable ticket so that you can change it at any time without any penalties or restrictions.
  2. Take with you extra cash since you may have to stay at a particular location a bit longer than anticipated.
  3. For certain countries, consider getting a long term visa into the country instead of getting a tourist visa at the airport.
  4. If taking Tamaflu, be sure that you take enough for 10 days, the required dosage.
